Boyertown Inn Makeover

Boyertown Inn Makover

So you ask yourself what is the big deal about this old building and why has Thunder Outreach felt led to take on such a big challenge as showing God's love to the people who live in this 35 room, 4 story tall, 1860's boarding house and to also change the look of the building itself?

This is much bigger than just painting a building. This project is about repairing and restoring relationships in our community and about positively impacting peoples lives!

First, let me say that God will never ask you to do something that you would be able to do yourself. He will only ask you to do something that will take HIS involvement to do! And we do need HIS help on this huge task!

Second, it is all about relationships, between you and God, your family, your community and the people who live around you.

So, when it was placed on our heart to reach out to the people who live in the Boyertown Inn, it only made sense to help improve the environment they live in. Due to the low cost that people pay to stay in the inn, many people are still just barely getting by. This inn is a very low cost place where people who are trying to get back on their feet live. Also there are some people who are mentally challenged and senior citizens who are living on a very low fixed income. So to help these people we also need to help the owner keep repair costs down which will keep the rent cost low.

The best question that is constantly asked of us is "Why are you doing this?"

What a great opening to witness to people and to share our faith and the love of Jesus Christ.

The Bible states in Luke chapter 10 that Jesus said to 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'

Then Jesus is asked " Who is my neighbor?"

Then it leads to Jesus telling the Parable of the story of the Good Samaritan.
Which tells of a man who was attacked on the road and left bleeding.
Then a common Samaritan man saw him, showed compassion and helped him.

This is the whole point about this project. Helping and showing compassion to people in need.

  • By fixing up the building we can help the building owner keep the rent cost low.
  • By changing the colors and look of the building we are changing the view of the community towards the people who live there.
  • By interacting with the people who live there, (many who we know on a first name basis now) we are showing God's Love in this basic act of kindness.
  • By working with local volunteers, companies and churches we are building a support network for the future.

This all opens doors to be able to help the people that transition through the Inn and at the same time be a tangible reflection of God's love in the center of this community.

Many more things are planned to happen as this project keeps moving forward.
But right now we are taking this one day at a time.

We have seen many peoples lives already impacted in very positive ways and we give God all the glory for this.
Each day brings new blessings, friendships and connections. We look forward to what tomorrow brings and we invite you to join us.

Feel free to contact us if you would like to help.
